Evan Munsing Statement on President Trump’s Deployment of the National Guard in Washington, D.C.
THORNTON, CO - Today, Evan Munsing released the following statement on President Trump’s Deployment of the National Guard in Washington, D.C.
Evan, a Marine combat veteran, said,
“President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to DC is an act of political theater that commands our servicemen and women to behave in a manner contradictory to the intent of the Constitution. This is a fundamental betrayal of the trust between the government and the people who risk their lives to serve it. This is not how our military should be used, and we need leaders with the conviction and commitment to stand up against such egregious executive overreach.
Like all our servicemembers, when I became a Marine, I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, and I can speak, better than most, that in times of true national emergencies the deployment of the National Guard is appropriate and called for–but this is not that.”
Evan Munsing volunteered for the Marine infantry and deployed twice, including to Afghanistan, in 2013 and 2014 where he served as a military advisor to the Afghan Army. For his service, Evan was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal. Now he is running to represent the voters of Colorado’s Eighth District.
